Should I sign up for earlier freshman Orientation? Out of State only Orientations?

I am concerned with getting the classes that I want, especially at such a big school? Should I sign up for an earlier orientation date, or do they reserve spots for later orientation dates. I am also an out of state student, and I am considering going to one of the orientations primarily reserved for out of state students. Are these orientations worth it, and will I still be able to get the classes I want to?

From what I know…you have equal chance of getting the classes regardless of which date you sign up for…

When my D was a freshman she was in one of the last orientation sessions and while there were still many classes available, most of her first choices were already full before she even got there. If you have the option, I would recommend attending the earliest session you can.

@socalman @anomander To clarify, it does not matter which orientation session someone signs up for. How it works is current students enroll before freshman. However lower division classes have a certain amount of spots reserved for incoming freshman. Those spots are then equally divided among each session. More advanced courses will have less spots than basic ones purely because freshman are less likely to enroll in them. Within orientation groups they will draw cards or draw straws to decide who enrolls first in each mini orientation group. If you are flexible with times and professors you will get every class you need. But your chances are the same across all sessions.
