Currently, I'm kind of in a dilemma. I am currently a rising Junior who originally planned to take the SAT this October. However, I didn't really study as much as I should have during the summer, so I don't feel so ready to take the SAT. But if I take the SAT during the spring, I feel like it will be overwhelming because I have AP exams to prepare for.

Right now I'm sitting at around a 2100-2200 range and I want to get at least a 2200. I will use my weekends in September to do SAT practice but for some reason I don't think that will be enough.

I still have some time to drop the October SAT and take it later. Should I decide to take it later or should I give the SAT a go? Any advice?

The problem is that I can’t really find much time to do any extra SAT practice before November or December besides like one or two holidays and the weekends. Would that really be enough?

Similar dilemma. Studying on the weekends for one month will raise your score, but it depends on the person and how they learn. For me, I know if I only studied on the weekends for a few hours, I’d maybe go up 100-200 points optimistically. But if you studied for the whole day and fit in maybe 2 hours during the week, you’d go up definitely. What I was planning to do was take the psats in october, but the score return comes back december-february which really sucks. And I don’t get why it takes so long to return as well, as the sat score comes back in a few weeks. But after getting the scores, you’d know where i have to improve on and if your grade is close enough to where i want it. I think the grade you get shows how much time you need to put into studying. Going up 100 points, probably 2 weeks really studying. If you know you won’t forget the things you’ve learned over the summer, i’d probably put in 2 months more studying and take the november test. When you get the score back january, you have like 5 more months to study till the next test.

Well I’ve decided to take the sat in about january because I can study over winter break. I’ll still study on the weekends and a bit during the weekdays because i’m going to try to qualify for the Psat semifinalist.

At that score range, the only thing you need to do is take more practice tests. If you have about 5 hours available every weekend until November to take a practice test (~3.5 hrs taking the test, ~1.5 hrs reviewing it), I think you will be in good shape to take the November SAT. If you feel you can’t dedicate that much time, January is still a good option; just make sure that you do some studying before winter break begins.
