Okay, so I’m a high school junior and I want to start a Photography club. I’m somebody that wants to study science in college and eventually become a doctor. I just like photography and I am currently a part of four or five other clubs at my school. None of them are clubs where I hold a leadership position. By making this club, I would be the leader, and I’m not sure if it would even help me in my college applications since I already do so many clubs.
Also, I’m not sure how to propose this idea to my school, here are my options:
a) Say what it is about during assembly
b) Post a message online (it’s a website where we check our homework assignments and stuff) that everyone can see and link a google form for anyone that is interested
c) Sign up for my school’s club fair and make a booth for my club- I would I have to make a poster and everything
do your other five clubs take up a lot of time? Only participate in ECs that actually interest you, not for college admissions (because colleges care less about being a part of 10 different ECs where you did nothing).
If you really like photography, then go ahead and start it. There’s no harm in trying.
There probably is a procedure to start a club at your HS. Talk to your GC, Vice Principal or a teacher that is an adviser of another club.
Probably you will need to show that there is interest…so maybe post to see who is interested.
How will you interact with the yearbook and student newspaper? Those are activities where photographers are needed?
Can you talk to the art teacher about being an adviser? Maybe they know of student photography competitions.
