Should I submit a writing sample?

This past summer, I wrote a 2500-word paper on the political economy of the global food crisis for a university course I was enrolled in. My professor loved it and made it the centerpiece of the recommendation letter she wrote for me.

That got me thinking: should I submit the essay as a writing sample? I mean, I did choose Woody Woo as a potential "major." Plus, I worry that my application focussed too much on me the person rather than me the "young scholar." Any thoughts?

I remember going to an Info session this summer with a rep from Princeton's admission team; he begged the students there to keep their essays within the word limit-he says too much stuff tires them out. I would be happy that your teacher praises your paper-that seems good enough to me. Keep this paper and use it if you get waitlisted-that's my opinion.
