Should I take a study hall, or more AP classes?

Next year, I will be a sophomore and I have the option to opt out of study hall. So far, I’ve chosen these classes:
Honors Chemistry
Honors Algebra 2
AP Capstone Seminar
AP Government
Creative Writing 2/ Journalism 1
Spanish 3
I really want to add AP Psych to my schedule but I am worried it might be too much. Is there anyone who has taken Capstone, Government, or Psych and knows how challenging it would be?

You are writing to the parents cafe. The best place to direct your question would be to your guidance counselor and your current teachers, who would have an idea of what the load might be vs your abilities. It would also depend on what ECs you will also be engaged in, including sports.

Psych and gov are AP lite. Nice soph APs. I have no experience of capstone but from my reading I would not have my kids do it. As a soph, IMO your schedule does not justify a study period. In my kids school you only get a study period with 3 APs or IBD. Have you finished all your grad req classes?

Depends what kind of a college you’d like to get into. If you’re interested in highly selective colleges you need to take the most strenuous course load offered at your high school.

^ not exactly. You need to meet benchmarks but it doesn’t mean taking every AP/IB class offered.
It means having a minimum of 5 academic classes, honors or AP if offered, six if possible, including by graduation 4 units of English and history/social studies, math through precalculus or calculus, foreign language through level 4 or AP, each of bio, Chem, physics plus one science, and often one art/music. This can be slightly altered depending on strengths and interests.

AP Psych is one of the easiest APs. If you’re doing well right now (B+ or higher) in your biology class it’s a good class for a sophomore.

Shouldn’t Capstone be, you know, a capstone and taken Senior year? I say take some class, either a fun elective or AP Psych
