Should I take AP Chem or Organic Chem next year?

I'm a sophomore and the time to sign up for the next term's courses has come. I have an option of taking AP Chem or Organic Chem. Which one do you guys think I should take? I'm aiming for a really good college and I only took 1 AP course so far so I think that AP Chem would be the right choice for now since I can take Organic Chem later if I want. Also, should I take any more AP's? I got to Stuyvesant High School in NYC and the AP courses are really tough there. I know I'm going to have to go through hell with just 1 AP next year, but should I be taking more?

Take tons of AP/honors courses if they are offered. Take all of the ones offered.

HS is not hard, not even the private schools. Just learn to budget your time well. Its better to take the most rigorous program and fail them than it is to take “easy” courseloads. Dont make the same mistake I did and take tons of APs ur junior year!!!

Take both of them. Personally I took Organic Chem before taking AP Chem, but I think I would have done fine if I did them simultaneously. Also AP chemistry test covers a bit of organic chemistry AP chem doesn’t cover into detail, so it would be to your advantage to take them both at the same time. I enjoyed both classes, so if you manage your time right you’ll be fine.

I’d say go with AP Chem. I’m in it right now, and it’s definitely a worthwhile course for college. Getting another AP class on your transcript for your junior year won’t hurt either.

Take AP Chem, orgo is MUCH easier (especially at Stuy ahem) after having taken AP chem. Organic chem’s easier senior year anyway… I would also recommend taking more AP classes next year, perhaps 2 or 3, make sure they are subjects you like though. Junior year’s especially stressful, make the best of it starting with programming. AP calculus as a junior always looks good on that transcript… Good luck!

Take AP Chem as a junior and Orgo Chem for your senior elective.

orgo after ap

you should really double up in sciences also. bio or physics

Whatever you choose for next year, give serious consideration to making sure that somewhere along the line you’ve taken bio, chem and physics. Some schools seem to really want to see that trifecta.

I’d personally go for the AP Chemistry if the teacher is decent.
