I’m a rising sophomore and I’m able to get a p.e. waiver for the fall semester. I want to replace this with a semester long AP class and right now I’m leaning towards taking AP Microeconomics online (my school doesn’t offer it). First, what math classes would I need to take it? The College Board says just basic algebra, but the virtual school I would take it on suggests Algebra 2 which I haven’t taken yet (although I am enrolled in it). I’ve even heard that I need Calculus! Also, should I be worried about only being able to take microeconomics in the fall despite the exam being in May? What are the differences between macro and microeconomics? Is one easier? Does one require less math?
Why are you in a hurry to take AP Econ if you don’t think you are ready for it? The only reason to take this is to be able to get credits in college for it (and to learn the material of course)…so if you don’t do well because you are not prepared, why bother? Take it next year.
Agree that there is no need to rush into econ. Why not focus on doing well in your regular school courses and spend the extra time on your ECs? Macro is about how the economy works overall and focuses on inflation, economic growth, money supply, the deficit, etc. Are you a big reader of economic news?
