Should I take AP English Language & Composition?

I'm going to be taking APUSH, AP Bio, AP Calculus AB, and maybe AP Japanese next year, if I pass the test to skip Japanese 3. I'll be a junior next year. I will also continue orchestra. Currently I'm taking WHAP and AP Physics B, along with pre-calc, English honors, Japanese 2, and orchestra.

The question is, should I take AP English? I want to take it, but I'm worried about my grades. I've never gotten an A in a English class, and my English grades are what keeps me from a 4.0. I typically get an A- or B+ in English Honors. At our school, AP English is not that much harder than the work I'm already doing in English Honors this year.

What I'm trying to say is, is it better to get an B+ in AP English or get an A- in Honors English? Does the AP label help you at all in getting into college?

Almost all universities allow a score of 3-5 on the AP English Language exam to substitute for the typically mandatory freshman composition course. Depending on where you’ll matriculate in two years, taking the AP class next year could potentially save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars later.

I think it would be worthwhile to take. AP English is structured to improve reading comprehension and writing abilities. I would have liked to take the class this year, but my school doesn’t offer it (or any other AP for that matter).

An A in Honors English is not necessarily better than a B in AP English. If you can handle it along with your other APs, AP English will add to the rigor of your courseload. It all comes down to what is most important to you: a better GPA or potential college credit, provided the college you end up attending will honor your score.
