Should I take AP Lit?

I want to apply to Ithaca College and I'm wondering whether I should take AP Lit this year (senior year). I'm already taking 3 other APs so I'm worried it will be too much of a workload. Also, my major will definitely be something in the math or science area. I don't want to take ANY English or writing classes in college and I got a 5 on my AP lang test. Will this be enough for Ithaca or would I have to take AP Lit as well in order to not take any further English/writing classes?

My daughter is about to start her sophomore year at Ithaca, so I’m familiar with the present requirements. You do NOT need to take AP Lit this year - it will not get you out of any more requirements. Your 5 on the AP Lang. will get you out of taking the required Freshman Writing class. You will still have to take a Writing Intensive class as part of the Integrative Core Curriculum (ICC), as well as lot of other stuff - check out the ICC section of the Ithaca web site about this. This Writing Intensive requirement does not necessarily have to be satisfied by taking an English class. There is a list of approved courses that satisfy this requirement of the curriculum on the ICC webpage and they span across many subject areas. In my daughter’s case as a music major, it is being satisfied by a music history class. Be aware, however, that the requirements and list of approved courses that satisfy them may change a bit for each entering class. Good luck to you this year!

Thank you so much! You saved me a lot of trouble. Good look to your daughter as well!
