Should I take Geometry and Algebra 2 at the same time?

Read this before jumping the gun! I’m debating calling the school and adding algebra 2 to my schedule (going into the 10th grade). The reason I didn’t add it before was I thought I was going to be working a lot during the school year and I am already signed up for Pre AP English and Biology, so I thought doubling up on math might be too much. I am also a wrestler and during season we have 3 hour practices after school until 6:00 everyday for around 2-3 months (Late November-Early February). Now a little background on how my school year went in 9th grade! I had straight A’s and all my advanced classes were quite easy except Pre AP English ( I had to work a little for that class). I recently took the ACT and scored a 25 (math 24 only exposed to algebra 1). Now that you know a little about me and about how smart I am would it be smart to double up on math this school year? Last year I breezed through algebra 1 like it was nothing ( I am a natural at math usually). Thank you for reading this post and all responses will be very much appreciated!!!

@chancelawson12 the standard HS geometry course isn’t very challenging (of course, difficulty is relative, but there are much harder geometry courses out there) and if you are a decent math student, you should be able to take geometry and alg. II concurrently.

If you’re remotely competent in math, then geometry will be a breeze to the point you don’t have to crack a book, I’d do both. I wrestled 6 years too btw.

I recommend it! You will then take calc by senior year! I took alg 1 with geometry in 9th grade and my sister took geometry and alg 2 in 9th grade. Anyways, it’s a great idea and a smart kid like you should take advantage of it.

I think doubling up will work well for you! I doubled in 10th grade with AP stats and Hon. Precalculus, and was able to maintain As in both (and my other courses didn’t take a hit because of it). Summer before 9th grade, I started Geometry online, and it overlapped with Algebra II for a couple of months. All was fine - nothing that you learn in Geometry is going to be important in Algebra II. It should be especially easy since you’re naturally good at math. Good luck!

The high stats kids all take Alg 2 and geometry in 9th grade in our district. Then double up on science in 10th grade.
I hear geometry is really watered down at our school.

At my kids school we have many students who take geometry and algebra 2 concurrently.
