Should I take Regular Chemistry or Pre-AP (Honors)?

I’m a freshman in high school and I’m debating if I should take regular or honors chemistry. I want to go in the medical field someday. I’m taking Pre-AP English, Pre-AP Algebra II & AP Human Geography. I’m also taking Painting, Pre-AP Spanish III, Medical Terminology & Psychology. I’ll ask have to balance out volunteer hours & extracurricular. I don’t want my GPA to drop because I’m kind of bad at chemistry (not a math person) and I also heard the teacher for Pre-AP Chemistry is really bad. I don’t want my GPA to drop because of one subject. What should I do?

If your teachers have recommended you for honors chemistry, then you should take honors chemistry. Don’t stress yourself over the grading metrics before you have even started the school year.

That said, the potential GPA drop from one class (assuming it’s not a drastic drop) will have little impact on a 4-year. GPA. Good luck.

How are you doing in Bio this year? Are you taking regular or Honors?
If you want to be pre-med Chemistry is important.
Chemistry doesn’t have math (unlike, say Physics).
What does your GC think?

I’m in Honors and I ABSOLUTELY hate it. I currently have a 79 (yikes!) and my teacher is horrible.

If you can handle the load along with your other pre-AP courses, I would recommend taking honors chemistry.
It will be more beneficial when applying to colleges as well as having a more solid chemistry foundation when you get into your college chemistry classes (or take AP Chem!)
While chemistry does involve math, it’s not a very difficult level of math, mostly just calculations.
Taking honors will definitely help in the long run!!

Good luck!
