Hey guys, I was just wondering if I should take the ACT or not. I already have a pretty good SAT score and since most (all?) colleges now accept either the SAT or the ACT, what are some benefits to taking the ACT? Basically I'm not sure how much it would help me to spend time studying for the ACT rather than preparing for AP's and other things. Thanks :)

ACT is more factual recall than pure reasoning. You make the call.

It has more harder level mathematic formulas and equations but the SAT tries to trick you with easier problems to compensate. It just depends on how you think. The ACT gives less time and is more straightforward, the SAT gives plenty of time but is more conniving.

In that sense I prefer the ACT any day but it’s your choice. It can never hurt to try it once though if you’re a junior.

Hi gli890 I really think it all depends on the person.

I studied extremely hard (months) for the SATs, but after taking the test twice, wasn’t able to achieve my ideal score. So I decided to take the ACTs just to see how I would do.

Personally, I am SO glad that I did. I studied for maybe 2 weeks and got a 35.

Really? I wasn’t aware that the 19 vocabulary questions and the 25 underlined grammar questions on the SAT weren’t factual recalls.

I would take it. If you do horribly, oh well, you already have a brilliant SAT score to fall back on. I took the ACT and achieved a decent score (35) and am taking the SAT in January anyway.
