I'm a sophomore who is taking Chemistry Honors. My mother is pushing me towards science and wants me to take the SAT Subject Test for Chemistry. My Marking Period Grades were two B's and an A-. I know I will not cover all the material, but my teacher said she will be having a short after school session to go over the topics. In addition I will not be taking AP Chemistry next year, but rather in Senior Year, and if I wait till next year, I will have more time to prepare but run the risk of forgetting what I have learned. Would it be a good or bad idea to take the test this year, and how much would a poor score affect me?

A poor score really depends since a lot of colleges do not require SAT II, save the Ivy League. If I were you, I would take it, and if you don’t do well, prep for the June test.

You should take it right now, however if you do not get an 750+, most Ivy leagues will probably eschew your application.
