I was born in the US, but have lived all over Asia. Colleges can tell I'm chinese by my last name, and I've only taken spanish at school. Should I take the chinese subject test just to prove that I am fluent in chinese, or should I just mention it in my applications?

If you take Chinese, you should take two others. There are a lot of 800s in Chinese. I have heard that high scores in Chinese are not as valued at some schools simply because they are not that rare. I would think that if you do well and let you schools know that you are not a native speaker, it can only help you. Nevertheless, I would take two others. If you want to major in STEM, most school will require you to submit a Math2 Subject Matter test. Best of luck!

But should I take the test for the sole purpose of proving that I’m fluent?

^It’s unnecessary, but if you want to, go ahead.

No the mean score is like 760… If by chance you don’t get 800, they might think you’re an idiot not being able to get 800 on your own language… On the other hand, if you don’t take it, then that’s just it.

I don’t think 800 on Chinese would really help you that much anyways…
