I just got my ACT score back today and I got a 35 composite score ( 36 writing, 34 math, 35 reading, 35 science) so I’m definitely not retaking that test. BUT, i’m also signed up to take the SAT on March 10th and for a second SAT later, should I even bother? I would aim for 1550+ but idk whether it’s worth investing all the time to take practice tests etc. Does a second “good” score increase my chances?
No. Your time can be better spent elsewhere.
If a target school’s Common Data Set section C seems to favor SAT (may be difficult to interpret now; the word “prefer” has been removed from CDS re SAT vs ACT), submitting the score might be a plus.
Your subscores are excellent. I see no need to take the SAT. The ACT is accepted by top colleges. In many parts of the country, it’s the test high schools prefer and kids never take the SAT. Those applicants do fine with college admits. And then use your time making sure your ECs are right and that you understand what your targets look for.
If you have signed up for 2 SAT test already, at least change the second one to subject test.
No. But, please consider taking subject tests. Some schools ask for it.
Don’t bother, 35 is a great score. Some schools require you to send all test scores so there is actually some down side if you do not do as well. Spend your test prep time on SAT2 tests.
Are you a national merit semi-finalist? If so, you need to take the SAT and get a qualifying score, which is actually pretty low for what a semi-finalist can score.
Thanks everyone!
Heck no, unless you can get like a 1600. 35 will be able to compete for any school you apply to. I would definitely invest the time into subject SAT’s (even though they aren’t required with the ACT, they help a ton).
