Should I take the SAT in December again with these stats?

So excuse the not so great scores, I'm definitely not as smart as most of the people on this site :)

So here's a little background:
GPA UW: 3.7
GPA W: 4.02
Top 5% in a public school.
8 AP classes and 1 Honors Total
Good amount of extracurriculars, clubs, etc.
Subject tests are in 600s
Taking two in November.

SAT last year (not much studying first time): 2050 M: 600 CR: 700 W: 750
This october (studied more but failed and I don't know why): 1850 M: 540 CR: 630 W: 680

I'm horrified at this second score and I really don't get why this happened, I'm afraid at how colleges will look at my second score and might think I got lucky the first time. At the same time the stress that comes with retaking in December seems so hard but idk now. What do you guys think if the colleges I'm applying to are UCLA, UCB, UCSB, UCSD, UCI, NYU, USC, U Michigan, Boston University, and George Washington!

Thanks in advance everyone! I really don't know what to do so any help is appreciated!

bumpppp :)

You should be able to choose which scores to send, meaning the second scores wouldn’t be seen unless the colleges go and request them. However, do know that if you don’t do well agin in December and feel the need to test again it will no longer be your best score that the college board automatically reports, it is a averaged score. Check here and the colleges websites what the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentile scores (aka low, average and high) are for acceptance. If you fall in the average to high range with your old score I wouldn’t bother. If not, test again but try to stress less. Study could have worsened your scores because you over stressed or burned yourself ut beforethe test. Hope this helps!

definitely try again, it can’t hurt. It’s only bad if you take the test more than three times

2050 is a pretty good score. You can use score choice.

2050 is a good score - I wouldn’t be horrified, and you have nothing to be ashamed of. Most kids in this country would drool over your academic record. Your second set of scores don’t have to be reported, and even if the college requests them, they’ll just chalk it up to a bad day.

If you are below the bar at the schools you want to go to (based on the 2050 score), take the test again in December. But don’t sweat it - it probably won’t be the deciding factor for whether you get into a great school.

Thank you for all the help!! yeah I think I’m just going to use score choice but I heard that you have send all scores to the UC’s and that made me a little nervous.

@ Boondocks: thank you so much for the advice and encouragement! it means alot especially because sometimes I don’t feel like I have done too well compared to other people on this site.

@cty4ever: Thank you as well! I never knew that college board sends your average score once you take 3 tests??? that was def something new for me! :)

The collegeboard doesn’t send your average score after 3 that’s false. They send all of them if score choice isn’t accepted by the school.

ohh, ok that makes sense! thanks

You don’t have to send the October score. How about send your first scores and take the SAT again in Dec.?

Really? I’m so confused on that! don’t UC’s ask for all scores or do they only look at the highest? and yeah i’m considering retaking in December haha but I’m sorta afraid I’m going to do bad again. the 1850 really brought my confidence in test taking down haha.
