Should I take up on the Eng 1PA offer?

I've received a letter within the mail informing me that I'm have the option of taking English 1PA. I was originally placed in English 5, however, I wouldn't mind progressing directly to English 1B in the winter if I pass the class with a "c" or better. I'm not sure if I should follow up on this offer though solely because I'm unsure of what the class is like and a friend notified me that if I failed Eng 1PA, I'm basically screwed.

Can anyone provide some more information as well as a recommendation on what to take?

I took English 1PA fall 2009 and it wasn’t too bad. I’d suggest to go for it, because otherwise it means one more english class you HAVE to take. when you take english 1PA, you still have to do the extra english 5 pass or fail class which is the same book stuff for english 4 and 5 people. I’m an engineering major at UCR, and in the end was beneficial since I’m done with my english requirements now and only had to take 2 quarters of english because I took the 1PA course.
As well, the difference is that you have to see a TA once a week for 30 mins but I found it helpful and it did improve my writing and essays.

But be aware it is more work and someone i met in the dorms had the same professor for english as I did and I was putting more hours towards this class than she was. I say go for it if you’re willing to put in the extra effort to pass.

If you do fail, you are screwed in the sense you’ll have to take english 5 in the winter and then english 1A spring, pushing back english in your schedule. But willing to put in the effort it’s worth it and as long as you do all the work and whatever is needed you’re sure to pass.
