I was just curious what you think of the transfer process and the idea of transferring. I’m currently a freshman at FSU majoring in biological sciences and I’m having a really hard time here. I’ve joined clubs, but I still can’t find a friend group and I’m pretty socially isolated. I’m also worried about the Tallahassee area, as a lot of it is unsafe. Finally, I feel like UF might be better for my major (Biology with a pre-PA track). I love FSU and I am still academically challenged here, but I’ve been having a really hard time mentally and I don’t know if UF would be any better. I got into UF last Fall, so I’m not sure what advantages and disadvantages transferring would have. Please let me know what your experience was like and if it is worth considering.
i think it really depends on your grades. Seems like the most opportune time is after you have earned your AA but also if you have met the requirements for the upper division college you would transfer in to. I’m not sure how likely it is that you can transfer in after two semesters, unless you have a lot of credits.
I understand what your going through. My oldest D went through the same thing as you the only difference is the school. She’s now a Junior at University of Delaware. Her Freshman year there started off great. Nice roommate, nice girls in her dorm, she joined clubs etc. but then things started falling apart. Roommate not so nice, girls in her dorm getting clicky, not meeting any nice people in clubs. She started the transfer process to come back to CT but most of her credits wouldn’t transfer and she realized it’s not worth it and didn’t want to be too close to home.
She ended up staying at Delaware but she changed dorms. She met a great group of students in that dorm and they are still friends today, 2 years later. So my advice to you is to switch dorms rather than schools. It’s worth a shot…because you don’t want to be in the same situation at UF when you could have stayed at FSU and made a small change.
Btw, I’m on this thread because my youngest D applied to UF.
I have pretty good grades. I also have enough credits to transfer but I think I’m going to wait another year and see if things get better. I chose FSU because it felt right to me, I originally wasn’t doing STEM, and I was given great opportunities at FSU through the honors program. Thank you for the advice! @GatorDad305
Thank you so much for the advice, I think I’m going to give FSU another year and see if things get better (for example, I’m moving so that’ll be a nice change). I’m glad I’m not alone and I’m happy that things are going better for your daughter. I wish her the best! @jmsstb
You’re welcome and you are definitely not alone and I would bet money that lots of students at FSU feel the same way as you do. I remember my Freshman year of college many, many years ago and felt the same way. It was a tough year but Sophomore year was better and I met some great friends and by the time I was a Senior I met my future husband.
I wish you all the best!
A friend of mine is the sponsor of the Pre-PA club at FSU, and she’s a professor within the PA program there. Maybe this is something you would be interested in joining to meet other students with similar interests? I believe it’s a new club to FSU this year, as their PA program is fairly new as well.
