Should I transfer to Northeastern?

Right now I'm currently attending the University of Toronto. I'm from Connecticut and it's about a 9 hour drive from here to home. I'm currently a freshman and after trying and trying to like U of T I'm finding it really hard. Basically, I hate it here and I'm really unhappy. It's way too far from home for my liking, most of the students live really close and are gone on the weekends as well. The social scene isn't really what I wanted. Since the drinking age is 19, everyone spends their time at clubs and things like that which I'm not really into. People here in general are unfriendly, but my being from the US certainly doesn't help at all. The school doesn't really have a campus and everything is really spread apart. Also, Toronto isn't what I expected. Canada is more different from the US than I had originally thought and coming here was definitely a culture-shock for me.

I really want to transfer to Northeastern next year, but I'm not sure if this is the right decision. I don't have much of a problem with the academics here, but I know Northeastern has a better communications program and I like their emphasis on the co-op program. I feel that going to NU would help me get a job after graduation. I would love to be closer to home and in the country. I'm worried that these reasons aren't enough for me to leave, but I don't know what else to do. I have friends here, but unfortunately they're not making me want to stay. I've also tried to get involved in various aspects of the university but it's really hard because it's such a huge school. I feel like a number here and like the university couldn't care less about me.

I guess I'm just looking for advice, especially from students who have transferred after their first year, or from college counselors. Also, are there any other schools I should consider?

Honestly I have a similar situation in that I dislike almost every aspect of my school. For me it is too close to my home and the party scene is grimy. Ergo I plan on transferring because college is supposed to be the best 4 years of my life and I can’t do that here. I would say that if you really are miserable there then you should get on that transfer app and not look back.

i would try to make the best of your current school

transferring to northeastern is such a headache, the way that they figure out the credits totally screws you. you will likely end up having to do 5 years including the co-op year which will probably cost about $275 000 after they jack up tuition, which is soon to come
