Should I transfer?

I got into University of Southern California my senior year (my first first choice) but I couldn’t attend because of finances. I I am currently enrolled at Howard University in DC on an almost full ride scholarship (I only have to pay meal plan). The only thing I am caught up on is that I am not receiving the education and hands on experience that I should be. My broadcast journalism program in HS was far better than anything that I am doing here. The only way I can be successful here is to do internships (which I am), but the journalism program here SUCKS! It simply sucks and will not make me competitive for the real world. My social life isn’t great, but I wouldn’t transfer just because of that. But the scholarship is amazing, should I just stick out the four years? Or should I transfer (GWU, Loyola Marymount, USC etc) and have to take on debt?

Also if anyone knows of any good multi-year scholarships let me know lol!

Have you thought of majoring in something other than journalism, something that Howard is perhaps stronger in? You don’t necessarily need a bachelor’s degree in journalism to be a journalist - and graduating debt free from college will be a huge benefit to you. You could go on to complete a master’s degree in journalism if need be.

@goldencub Yeah I think getting a master’s is my go to plan for now. Overall the academic programs here aren’t very good (something most students acknowledge) so changing my major wouldn’t really help. But yeah, graduating with no debt is really nice. I’ll just stick it out. Plus DC is a great city for internships.
