I am currently an undergraduate attending a university where I can’t get into the school that has the major I want to study which is Journalism. I am in my senior year and have transferred already two times. I am thinking of transferring back to my original college where I know I can get into their journalism school. The problem is it is more of a commuter school and does not have much social opportunity. I am very socially active in my current school. I switched schools initially because of poor grades and financial issues. I could pick a different major and minor in journalism but I’m not happy with the choices I am given at my current school. It had always been my dream to study at my current school but I’m am torn because I feel in the long run I will have better job opportunities if I transfer back to my original school.
I am very confused. You say that your current school is your dream school, but they don’t even offer your major? Am I understanding this correctly?
I currently attend George Washington university Columbia college which offers journalism however you have to get into their school of journalism. It’s very competitive and I will not be able to get in. I can minor in journalism but I have to pick another major that the Columbia school offers. I can transfer back to my original school Hofstra where I can definitely study my major. But Will not have the social environment that I love at GW. This would also be my third time transferíng. Thanks so much for your comments.
Can you minor in journalism?
Fellow fellow colonial. Some points for you;
- there’s no hurt in attempting to transfer to SMPA even if you do t think you will qualify. The worst they can do is tell you no.
- Grad school could be an option that you could consider, depending on your financial situation
- A journalism major isn’t required to be a journalist. I’m at the Elliott school, and I’ve routinely watched lots of my older peers go work in journalism upon graduation; some with journalism minors, and some without. Utilize the career services center; they can offer amazing help.
Good luck to you
Yes
Thanks so much for your comments. I met with SMPA admissions and At the time I was a junior and they said i didn’t have enough journalism credits to get in. I’ll meet with the career service center for some help. Thanks again.
