Should I transfer?

Hi erbody,
I currently go to Purdue University. I got into UIUC's engineering program for Fall '09.

It is a heck of a lot cheaper for me to go to UIUC (practically free because of College Illinois). Essentially I am paying 15k a year at Purdue whereas it would be something like 5k a year at UIUC. However, my mother pays for it and is no financial trouble or anything. She says if I like Purdue and want to stay, that's fine.

I like Purdue and wouldn't have any problems with staying here for the next 3 years. But, I hear Illinois is about the same as Purdue, if not better as a whole. Also, UIUC is ranked higher in Computer Engineering (my major), but I hear the difference in rankings means nothing.

I guess another pro is I can get into the bars at UIUC. Also, a lot of my friends from highschool went there.

I think Purdue is a great school, and I am a bit skeptical that I won't fit it in at UIUC, however that remains to be seen.

My mother said I could attend UIUC for a semester, and then transfer back to Purdue if I didn't like it. She would pay the rent for the rest of the year at UIUC.

The thing is, if I like UIUC MORE, then I should definitely be there because it's so much cheaper. And if I never try it, I'll never know that maybe it was a better fit for me or something.

So, do you guys thnk I should give it a shot for a semester?

Thanks so much.

I think you might as well stay at Purdue. Clearly the benefits are not that good besides the drop in tuition which you said was not a problem anyway for your family. Also, transferring may cause transfer credit problems and so on I’d stick to Purdue.

Bump.

P.S. I got the $$ figure today. Going to University of Illlinois would be pretty much FREE while Purdue will be $15k a year. Over the next 3 years, that’s 45 Grand. Something to think about regardless of whether or not my family has the money, right?

Thanks
