I'm thinking about transfering to UIUC. I currently go to Purdue for EE. I didn't apply to UIUC because I thought it would be a reach for me (had 2100/3.2 GPA). Low gpa was my main concern when I was applying for schools. Right now I'm in the second half of my sophomore year with a very good gpa and co-oping with a good company. The only problem I have with Purdue is the lackluster prestige (we're always behind UIUC grrrrrrr). Anyways, what do you guys think? Should I just not even worry?

Don't do it because of lackluster prestige. Do you like Purdue?

Really... I taught at UIUC and the caliber of students is high, but it's not higher than any other school. Those rankings are really pretty arbitrary. You're getting a fantastic education at Purdue. I'd say you might even be getting a better education at Purdue... UIUC is huge, and you've got a slightly better chance of working with great professors and getting to know them a little better (and getting better recommendations from them!) at Purdue. There's essentially no difference in ranking between the two... Anything in the top twenty is fantastic. The only reasons that UIUC gets ranked ahead of Purdue is because of how those rankings work, and it all comes down to politics.

If "lackluster prestige" is the only problem you have with Purdue, then it's really no reason to switch schools. You've got excellent career and grad school prospects coming from a school like Purdue and if you're happy there, there's really no reason whatsoever to switch horses midstream.

(Seriously!! Switching for the basketball teams is about as good of a reason!! :P)
