Shouldn't Duke and Princeton just swap campuses?

Consider it - Princeton is preppy, elitist, and (accordingly) has a greater proportion of Southerners than any other Ivy. Meanwhile, Duke sits in the middle of North Carolina with a Northeastern swagger type of ambience and a student body dominated by kids from New Jersey. How did all that come to be? Are there any other pairs of colleges that ought to trade places?

No, because it would confuse the students. They’d all be late for class.

Haha, no, because kids in New Jersey already know how much living in the state sucks.

Huh? Down south we think of people in the Northeast and maybe California as preppy and elitist…I’ve never heard that about the South. Are there conflicting stereotypes, or something?

The South is by far the most preppy region in the United States.

@ColdWind: Here in CA, we generally consider the Northeast to be preppy and elitist while we think of California as elitist but generally not preppy (well maybe in some parts).

here in the northeast, we think of the northeast as preppy. (i live in nj)

The South is not the preppiest region…I’ve lived in both the Northeast and the South for ten years each and the Northeast is way preppier than the South. North Carolina and a lot of other southeastern states are laid-back, warm-and-fuzzy, Southern hospitality sorts of places. Duke is something of an anomaly, but that’s because the majority of Duke’s students come from out-of-state and are not North Carolinians.

The only thing preppy I can think about in the south are the Greek systems at some of our large flagship publics and privates (UGA, LSU, Vanderbilt, Duke also I suppose).

South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama & Mississippi are preppy. Wake Forest University in North Carolina is also very preppy.

Here in the northwest, we’re not quite sure what preppy means. What’s this I hear about popped collars? (can’t really do that under a Northface fleece or you lose the effect) Do they really wear plaid pants? (I remember those on golfers in the 70’s…)

Here in Portugal we believe the Spanish are preppy and elitist. This is a stupid idea. Everybody knows that Duke’s gardens would just wither and die in the climate of Camden, NJ.

Whoever told you that Princeton was in Camden, NJ, was playing a cruel (but funny) joke.

Not so.

No can do on the campus swap, but Duke wants Princeton’s LAX team.

You caught me…I have no knowledge of New Jersey geography.
