Shumway Surgical Skills Stanford Summer Internship?

Hey congratulations to all that made it in!
Im really looking to applying for this program next year. Do you guys have any tips as to how to get in?

Just got a confirmation email for program 1. See you guys…

yeah i guess the stats i posted are a little doubtful, but i PM’d someone who got in last year, and they said that about 20 people out of the 300 that applied made it, and that’s 6.667%. that statistic is just based on trust from this website though haha sooo don’t rely on it :P

Hey everyone, my name is Maxx (im a girl), im currently a junior in high school, and I am going to the second session! I just got the email about the housing options, so I’m looking into different apartment options. Are there possibly any other girls that are considering an apartment (maybe we can find a place/be roommates and split the price)? Please respond on the thread or pm/email me if you’re interested; thanks!

What types of housing does this program offer? Is it apts only? Are the high school students on their own? Is there a dorm room/on campus option available?

How is the Financial aid?

i’m a girl, and i’m considering the option of staying with the group in an apartment that they are going to arrange

Wow ok… thanks…

So they don’t offer on campus housing for this program??? I don’t think apartment living would be a viable option for my daughter… I would much rather a dorm setting.

Sorry to be bumping, does anyone have info on ON CAMPUS housing for this program?

^I’ll be in SIMR, not Shumway, but they told us that nobody under 18 can get a dorm. Housing confirmed this, so I would assume it applies to you guys as well.

As far as ā€œapartment livingā€ not working for your kid/you, come on guys. It’s not too difficult, lots of kids have done it and will be doing it. If you have the independence for a summer program like this, you can rent an apartment. It’s not really that different from a dorm, except you have to prep your meals (there’s a Safeway and CVS very close to available apartments).

Either take what Stanford is arranging you (lucky, btw, SIMR did nothing for us lol) or make your own arrangements. But HURRY, everything is filling. I would recommend Oak Creek or Sharon Green apartments - both offer short term rentals, but are very expensive. That’s just how palo alto is. Alternatively, you could sublet a room of grad student housing, which is on campus, but you’ll have to share the apartment with a current grad student if that bothers you.

we actually ended up getting on campus housing!

Thats great! How did you arrange this? What is the charge for the housing? Would love details… thanks so much.

Has anyone gotten any more information about the program, such as schedules and times? I feel like they haven’t really contacted me at all…

I would also like to ask again… about on campus housing! Please give details if at all possble.

Haven’t received anything either

Hey! I’m going to session 1 and I just finished my high school junior year.
I haven’t gotten any other information either since they emailed me the form for scrub sizes.

Session 1 starts in 2 weeks but I have no clue what’s going on! Hopefully they’ll be sending something out soon?

I finally got an email today about the program, but I got the information/feel that there are two groups per session with each group having 30 students…
Having heard that makes me feel like maybe the program wasn’t as selective as I thought it was. Talk about bummer. That doesn’t make me feel accomplished at all.

Usually internships that charge a fee (this one is 3k) aren’t as selective. On the other hand selective ones such as RSI, SIMR, Clark etc are near impossible to get into. Let’s make the best of what we got…

Are any of you guys staying in the Grove House for session 1?
