*sigh*... I got my PSAT exam back...

suave:
I would not be worried. In 10th grade, I scored a 168 on the PSAT. After I did a few practice tests in the College Board's "The Official SAT Study Guide: For the New SAT," my Junior PSAT was a 2080.
And don't think you will have to practice day and night. I just did half of the tests in the book over a 1 year period.

Practice consistently and you should do fine. Good luck!

Kchen-I took it this year I think in November. I agree it is much easier than the PSAT but with my luck I probably failed.
I still haven't gotton my scores back

Don't worry, I got 171 as a sophomore and 209 as a unior. I started reading a whole lot more, but no prep other than that.

BTW, I go to school in the south bronx too :P
But you can probably guess what school it is if I say that we had plenty of people get over 200 as sophomores...

Suave, don't worry. The SAT and PSAT are easily coachable, and I would advise you get a prep book or two and work through them. If you've never seen PSAT/SAT before taking it, I can understand having a little trouble. However, you've been warned now. You have about a year to prepare(plenty of time). Furthermore, you have time to do the strategies that work, like reading a ton. So don't worry, but don't slack off.

You'll get them soon. The PLAN test takers at my school got them yesterday.

One year is a long time....

Everyone can go up from a 160 to a 230...really.

It's just some people don't put that much importance on the PSAT...

Man i dont get why you guys are complaining cause i got a bad score which is 136!!!

I got 197 this year. (62 C.R., 64 Math, and 71 Writing)
Although I should be happier, I am depressed by the Critical Reading score in particular...

I got a 200 which sort of frustrated me because it was close to commended which I at least wanted. Pretty far from NJ cut off though. (70 writing, 68 CR (very happy with that), 62 math (mad about that--i can do so much better on math))

Wow mcz your scores are almost identical to mine, since I got 197, too. o_O. The only difference is I got one higher on C.R. and one lower on writing.

198.... 72+56:(+70

217... Junior. National Merit Semifinalist almost certainly.

"217... Junior. National Merit Semifinalist almost certainly."
how do you know how high it needs to be for national merit semifinalist?
i got 223

Highest in my class by eight (sophomore) but jesus CHRIST I bubbled two questions wrong on math. Oy vey, that feels dumb.

NM semifinalist qualifying scores vary by state; search for last year's and you'll have a good idea.

to OP(I figured out what it stands for!): since you've never seen the SATs before then there's obviously lots of room for improvement. Between sophomore and junior year I just worked on the Official SAT book, and learned some more stuff from classes too, and my score went up 27 points.

So no worries! And it's not like your score this year affects any monetary thing anyways, so even LESS worries!

Not to brag, but then again, it wouldn't be bragging because these aren't very good. CR 58, Math 59, Writing, an amazing 60! (I got a really low score on the practice) I only studied for the week before and when I took it, I was just starting Geometry.

dont worry... seriously. IT WILL go up junior year. most of my friends score went up 20-30 points. Mine went up a whole 35 point!! and that is with MINIMUM prep..

YEAH! Class of 2008!! :D

Anyway. I'm pretty disappointed with my score too, I got a 201. Time to start studying for the real thing next year... =[
