I submitted our 2011 tax forms and W2s to Cornell Financial Aid two weeks past deadline due to issues we had with filing - had to rush them by UPS because the fax was busy for over an hour and I don't remember if I sent signed or unsigned copies. But the web site only asked for 2011 Tax Form copies, while some schools specified signed copies -- so it very well could be I just popped a copy out of the printer and sent it off. I thought they were the signed copies, but since I mailed them, I have no proof. It was a hectic week getting things off that were due March 1.

Anyway, something I read here on CC prompted me to ask my daughter to check her applicant financial aid "to do list" and it said they were waiting for signed copies. She never got an email alerting her to this; I emailed the FA office right away but will call tomorrow and fax signed copies if necessary.

I would assume if we were missing anything that a college would send an email (or even an old-fashioned letter, as a couple of them did). My D isn't even accepted yet, so why would she be routinely checking her financial aid "to do" list daily to see if anything was missing? Yikes. I'm afraid now her package, if she is even accepted, will be too late.

Guess I should have kept track better. So many lessons learned for when the next in line, D3, high school class of 2016, applies to college. I should make notes now so I remember all the things that went wrong with D1 and D2!

I’m missing my signed copies as well as the collegeboard CSS profile thing. What are the repercussions of this? Will I still be able to receive aid?

I just talked to Cornell. They did receive my packet with tax forms, but because I sent unsigned copies printed off my computer, I have to resubmit signed copies and I will do so ASAP by fax.

The section of the financial aid web site I was looking at did NOT say, “signed copies” were due by Feb. 15, just copies. There is apparently another checklist in a separate location that does indicate signed copies are necessary.

I will do as they ask, of course, but it wasn’t very clear from the web site what was necessary.

I wish the schools would send out an email if things are missing… we got no notification of this but I happened to ask her to check it. Since she’s not even admitted yet, she was not checking that part of her applicant portal.

Thank goodness I’ve been reading the CC Boards!

You should contact Cornell ASAP, which is tomorrow during their financial aid office hours. I’m not sure what they would do in this situation, but you will probably receive aid - just not as much as if you had met deadlines.

I’m not missing FAFSA, just the confirmation things like CSS and signed tax returns. Faxing/calling tomorrow. Any more input on my situation would be awesome.

Called Cornell Fin. Aid this afternoon and was told to send in the forms ASAP. I mentioned that I did not receive a request for this information. Their reply was that they did not send any request out. They thought parents would be pro-active and send the information to them. Other colleges sent an email asking that FAFSA be updated after taxes were filled or sent an email requesting the information.
