Significance of Double-Majoring

Sorry for a potentially stupid question, but I there's something I don't understand about double-majoring:
Say I go into Mech. Eng as a primary major as Computer Science as double major, does that allow me to work in Computer Science? or to go to grad school as a Computer Scientist?
In other words, does the double major degree in Computer Science (or whatever the double major is) allow me to pursue a career in that field?

If so, what's the difference between the primary and the double major?

Thanks

Only difference: you don't get priority in upper level CS courses.

does this situation occur very frequently... aka... is it hard to get in the upper classes ;)

Umm, so in effect, AcceptedAlready, getting a double major degree in CS is like getting a regular (primary) one, assuming that all the course requirements are satisfied?

Ok, and another question: Is getting into the dual-degree program difficult in CMU, or is it also administratively easy?

Thanks guys
