Simple Curiosity about Temple U.

So, one of my int. friend goes to Temple University. He once told me that he would transfer one or two years later,
but recently he informed me that he would have to pay his scholarship back to Temple University if he wanted to transfer to other schools. I was very surprised. What kind of c*** is that?

I wanted to see if that was true(not saying he's lying but you know) but I couldn't find a written statement about such information.

Anyone who goes to/used to go/graduated Temple University, do you know anything about this?

I will be interested in the answer to this. Typically stidents do not have to repay scholarships if they transfer. But maybe there was some special program your friend was part of.

It depends on the scholarship and the circumstances whic he got it. There are scholarships tied to majors and careers. If start on the path and don’t complete it don’t work in the career ; ex federal teach grant, the scholarship becomes an unsub loan

This is an international student. Would he be eligible for a federal teach grant?

But I do agree…maybe some special major or program.

Temple has some very nice awards, up to full tuition with all sorts of privileges attached, and they are award automatically to those who have certain threshhold grades and scores. I would be interested in knowing if those have the condition of having to be repaid if the student transfers.

It is possible for private scholarships to have whatever conditions attached. I can see organizations funding an award for someone going the direction of that organization, but wanting the money back if the direction is changed. The SUNY’s which are not private, are offering free tuition for certain tech majors that meet certain standards, but if the major is changed or any other such stated condition of the award, the amounts received turn into loans.

I’ve not seen that condition for the merit scholarships cpt refers to, but there is a Temple forum on this board, and of course you could call Temple to ask directly.
