Well, I am relatively new to the college application scene, so I have a few easy questions.
Do only A-G courses show on the transcript?
Is the transcript the only means of notifying colleges about the classes you have taken? (is there a spot on college apps for this?)
Do colleges even see the fact that you are taking classes not under the A-G category (ie: printing class)
Would taking a class not in the A-G category be equitable to not taking the class at all?

Thanks You ahead of time for any answers you can supply.

All classes show on your tanscript. Most colleges only count the academic ones in light of GPA, however. Classes like band, sports etc (E.C.s) will definitely be considered.

Well, I also believed the class would still show on my transcript, but my counselor informed me that colleges would not see a non A-G class. Is she wrong? or does she just mean that colleges will not see it as in they will just ignore the fact that I had taken the class?

Well, your counselor could be either speaking figuratively, as in those classes will not really be taken into consideration in terms of GPA, or your school’s transcripts could actually be odd and leave off elective courses. o_o

If your school does have a strange transcript system, colleges will probably know about it and check your application for further information. Most college applications do have a place to list courses yourself.

You could always ask your counselor for clarification!

The UCs and CSUs ignore all non a-g classes, I believe. There are SOME other colleges that also ignore non-academic classes completely, but I wouldn’t rely on it.

I very much appreciate all the replies so far. So, CSUs and UCs will ignore all non A-G class because they will not appear on the transcript? or because it is part of their policy? Colleges using common applications will surely look at non A-G courses?
