Haha dude he's heading to Stanford :D

Yikes, sorry for the random intrusion

Well I have got into Stanford, Columbia, CMU and NYU. I know of at least one senior at Stanford who didn't submit either so they don't seem to care very much. If you want to know more about my profile, just search for the thread I started in the chances forum.

thanks. That's very helpful. I wonder if that's because you sent the actual a level grades as a J3 or was your admission decision made before a level?

btw if there some way i can send you my details then you help me take a look at my chances. dont want to be exposed here. if it is too much trouble then nvm

Nope, I didn't send my A-level grades over either until after the decision came out. You can send a private message to me regarding your details.

thanks. I've sent u a msg. Could u help me check it out if you have got time?

btw happpy bday to our genius gal fiona_! :)

bump? bump??

Ahaha evidently people are busy mugging for A's now. I hope you guys all did well for prelims ;) Wheeeee.

i screwed up my prelims.

That was how long ago! P:

I screwed up mine too.

how impt are prelims exactly? will it override a mediocre sat1 score?

never. colleges ask for SAT I specifically of every single applicant - that gives you an idea of how important the SAT I is.

That said, SAT is not the be-all and end-all. Given that the score is above a certain benchmark (eg 2200), a higher score (2400 vs 2300 for eg) doesn't help. As you may recall, MIT rejected Y i f a n from Hwach with 2400 while S a m (<3) got in with 2200s.

Actually the amount of reputable schools joining the SAT-optional programme (LACs like Bates) is increasing.

And I haven't even mentioned ACTs.

Prelims affect your transcript, and remember schools weigh coursework more heavily than SAT scores (though test scores are still weighted heavily). Poor coursework and high SAT scores will not get you anywhere.

Hmm is Sam from HC or NUS High? I guess myf just wasn't quirky enough for MIT, but then again Stanford isn't a bad school is it? =p

Stanford is slightly more preppy than MIT. (In my opinion, the kids are a little more spoiled, tend more to come from a privileged background, etc.)

Also, unlike MIT, women actually outnumber men by 2%, so guys don't get one third the acceptance rate that of girls.

Yeah... Okay... Now you're gonna hit us with "Omg, the Legally Blonde girl is from Stanford too!" S a m is from NUSH :D

Guys, so what schools that you know of do not require prelim?
I talked to brown's admission officer and they say they put a very big emphasis on prelims. But UVA says they view predicted graded with much more significance.
Anyone can shed some light?
