Hello Ben,

Gosh, I created an account just to reply to you.

You HAVE to go to JC before even considering schools like Purdue. I mean, with an O Level cert, you’re probably not even going to make it through the introductory courses. The academic rigor at these colleges is for real. Especially with these O level grades… (Not a personal attack though, no offence whatsoever.)

I have friends who get straight A1s and not get into even the SINGAPOREAN junior college of your choice, much less US colleges. What you’re trying to do now is use an O level cert to apply to NUS. Which is completely unheard of. You’re probably not even 17 yet! Do take the A Levels first.

Also, extra-curricular activities are important in college applications. Having none isn’t going to help you…
Come back and ask these questions again in a year or two (: Also, like fiona_ said, there aren’t many Singaporeans here, so they can’t help you.

Hope I helped. Good luck with your studies!

Actually, contrary to what Eloriel said, I don’t think JC is the ONLY WAY to go, it’s not a MUST-DO. It’s the traditional way but not set in stone. But yes, extracurricular activities help… Anyway, you should be very clear as to which schools you have a realistic shot at/are a reach for you already when you were deciding which schools to apply to. The schools, too, will usually be able to gauge whether you can handle the academics from your portfolio.

As for the results, you can just fax a certified true copy over I believe. That’s what I did for all my A Level Results since it’s not like the documents will ever reach on time if I mailed them. Just drop them an email and say you faxed it over, and ask them to get back to you if there are any problems. I got them certified by my school administration office but if your school doesn’t do that then you have to find someplace else.

actually i’m not applying to NUS. i’m not even interested in studying in singapore.

JC is much too rigorous for me. and i do have friends who did O levels who’re in US unis right now (UIUC, 7 subs) and they’re coping fine with a little extra studying during exam period, but that’s common everywhere ain’t it ? JCs in singapore have wayy too much mugging without the chance to actually do anything else. and i don’t wanna waste 2 years of my life doing something that monotonous. at the very worst, i’ll just do cc for 1 year and then transfer to a better uni (as suggested by someone here) and i still end up graduating in 4 years without the headache of A levels

fyi i’m 18. long story.

thanks for your reply anw.

I don’t know about that - I personally didn’t feel like I studied very hard during A-levels. Heck, the last time I really studied for something was for PSLE.

good luck on going through life avoiding all the difficult stuff. interesting what money can do, isn’t it?

“avoiding all the difficult stuff” ? must be the better-than-thou mentality that all you JC students share. or is it a princeton thing ?

like i said, good luck.

I don’t know where you got the “wayy too much mugging” and not having “the chance to actually do anything else” idea from.

Most people I know never really mugged hard in JC (at least my classmates and friends didn’t) - they studied when they had to (like when they have an exam coming up) but they did a lot of community service, leadership, competitions, research and all the other stuff as well. Of course, we slacked a lot, played poker (or at least tried) during lectures and breaks, etc… as well - so it is not even all about work.

@screwitlah: its funny how you post a callous remark and then back off when i call you out. coward.

@frank: you’re from HCI. you’re more or less academically able. i’ve seen people barely make it to JC for the sake of going to uni and then drop out (or get retained) because they can’t cope. it may not happen in your school, but it does happen in other schools. alot. and let’s be honest here: comparing JCs in singapore to high schools in the US should give you a more than sufficient view of the whole picture and an idea of where i drew this conclusion from.

i was actually being generous and a bit too soft hearted that i got a change of heart, since it is apparent to all that you have an ego to fill the universe without the substance to match it. but i guess i must be a coward then, since you obviously see one in the mirror every day, so you should know  i feel bad for your dad and his company.

so how is that working out for you ? hiding behind a computer screen and insulting others for no reason. is there a problem here ? did i say something here (or in any other thread) that warranted that post from you ? no ? so what the **** is your problem then ? or do you just find pleasure in going about, screwing around with other people for no reason ?

and ROFLMAO, “call me out”? who you think you are, some tough hooligan in the streets of Bronx? please, people like you who can’t last a day in the real world without running back to your daddy want to act tough? hahahaha this is so funny i am laughing my coward laugh right now

okok i will go off now then. promise i won’t talk to you again. its good to get out of the playground

yeah that’s all you can do, play the keyboard warrior behind a computer screen. ■■■■■.
