Hi! I'm an incoming freshmen at Duke next year.
Although we haven't gotten housing forms yet, I'm curious how many singles are available to freshmen and how they are arranged. Are they next to other singles or on halls with doubles as well? Are they only in particular dorm buildings or are there some in all?
Thanks!

There are singles in every dorm on East, I believe-- I’m in one as a first-year, in halls with doubles as well. It becomes a lot more difficult to get a single as a sophomore, junior, and senior when you make the move to Central/West. You’ll be able to indicate preference for a single on your housing application form.

(And welcome to the Blue Devil family!)

@purpleacorn Thank you! How do you like living in a single dorm? Do you find it isolating or is just nice to have your own space to come back to?

I love my single. It’s nice having my own space, and a place to be alone and study/work/sleep/be mine.

@purpleacorn do you know if there are there singles in the pegram as well?

@purpleacorn Thanks for sharing your experience!
About how many singles are there on every floor? and how easy/hard is it to get a single if you request one?

It’s pretty easy freshman year since everyone thinks having a single will mean you won’t be able to make friends (NOT true). It gets a lot harder once you move off East because now, lots more people want a single (since they realize you can still be social and have a single). It’ll be pretty much impossible to get one sophomore year, a little easier junior year, and much easier senior year.
