My major is Chemical Enginering, and I am thinking to go to SJSU.
Is SJSU (San Jose State University) is a good school?
As a SJSU graduate, Will I be able to get a good job from a good company?

How about my chance to go to a top MBA school like Harvard or Stanford?

I was admitted to SJSU for Computer Engineering and was researching a lot about it few months ago before choosing UCLA. Well SJSU is one of the best "State" schools for Engineering majors together with Cal Poly. If you major in Electrical-Computer Engineering, it's definitely a good school to get an internship/job in Silicon Valley. On the other hand, I'm not sure about Chemical Engineering, but I got a friend who graduated from SJSU, and now he got a very good job. It all depends on other factors and of course on your effort there.

Why do you want to go top MBA schools while your major is Chemical Engineering?

Thanks for the feedback go2007.
I am majoring in Chemical Engineering because I like Physics and environmental things..One of my life goal is to invent a new/alternative energy source so I think Chemical Engineering is the best for me.

I am thinking to go to top MBA school because I am also interested in doing business.
I am not sure if I really want to be rich, but I just feel I will be so satisfied if I can make a lot of money, and be a dependable person..I just hate depending on other people. I'm sick of it..It makes me to feel guilty.

I think Chemical Engineering+MBA is the best combination for me.
The thing is, I am still not sure if SJSU good enough to help me to reach my dreams.

That's what I heard from a lot of people. SJSU is a commuter school, but it’s not really a big deal for me.

I did some researches about SJSU and I noticed the school is now taking a serious step to convert from a commuter school to a true urban university. SJSU just built the largest library building (made in a single construction project) in August 2003, and it also just built a $210 million dorm/apartment in Fall 2005.
The dorm/apartment is called Campus Village. It has won some awards and it on the news several times.
The quote from Metronews.com, "The village will increase SJSU's residential population from 7 percent to 13 percent, with possible future additions bringing the population to 20 percent" (Hinton, William).

There are other reasons why I chose SJSU such its location. it's located in the heart of silicon valley. A friend of mine had a Co-op with Intel, and he got hire right after his graduation.

SJSU is (obviously) not as good as its neighbors (Stanford and Berkeley), but I'll work very hard and always do my best, and hopefully I can make a history for the school..huahaha Jk =)

Good luck Ryan_Kidz. Just do your best there and I bet you will succeed.

Well, I visit my uncle and my aunt every month in SJ and get bored of the city already :( . Anyway you should get ready to study with many part time students over there( I'm sorry to say many of them have very weak academic ability since SJSU accepts everybody with >2.0 GPA in fact)

hey props for choosing a school based on fit instead of prestige, it takes a lot to do that. and SJSU definitely gives a lot of opportunities to work at local high-tech companies.

Hi Ryan,
I wonder how you are doing right now, and I hope you reach your dreams already! I got accepted to SJSU chemical engineering this year, and I find myself to be in a situation very similar to yours. I’ve also planned to go to top MBA schools since I’m interested in finance. And I chose chem engineering for undergrad is because I’m also interested in recycling and eco-friendly stuff. I have a good GPA and was accepted by both UCI and UCD. But I’m thinking of attending SJSU because of the cost.
Could attending SJSU help me reach my goals to the field of finance or be a find a good job as an engineer? By the way, I am an international student, and I know this will decrease my chances of finding a good job…
I would appreciate any feedback from you!
@Clairemangooo, this thread has been dead for 9 years. The chances of anyone, even the OP, who were on the original thread seeing it now are virtually nil.
@eyemgh , I see. it’s been hard to find a person with SJSU chem engineering degree so I didn’t even think that much when I posted… now I have to look for other people to ask…
thanks for telling that tho!
