SJSU Impaction

I'm currently a junior at a magnet school in Nevada. I'm really looking at going out of state for college, especially UCs and Cal States. One of my prospective schools is San Jose State for Civil Engineering. I know the out of state eligibility index systemwide and I have already seen the impaction chart for Fall 2012 at SJSU.

My question is: Has SJSU changed or updated the impaction for Fall 2013 or maybe even Fall 2014? or is it still the same index with no changes? Thanks!

SJSU is still impacted for the fall of 2013 and I am pretty sure 2014 will be as well. I’m not sure what is the GPA threshold is for out of state students, but the GPA threshold was a 3.3 for civil engineering in 2012. I would imagine it to be slightly lower or slightly higher by 2013 and 2014. It could also stay the same. You should also consider CPSLO for civil engineering if you qualify.

Thanks AsTran! I thought the threshold for SJSU was in the form of the eligibility index (like 2900 for in state and 3500 for Out of state). San Jose’s civil engineering is so impacted though that the fall 2012 chart said you need an eligibility index of 4100 to get in. With a 3.3 GPA, you would need a near perfect on the CR and Math SATs to make it. With my 3.5 UW GPA and my estimated SAT (taking it in March) at 1200, I would only make it to about 3850. Which means I will with little doubt make it for the Cal State system but I won’t make it to SJSU. Those are really tough requirements. I’m just wondering (and hoping) if they will lower their threshold as the economy gets better.

The actual thresholds for fall 2013 and fall 2014 will be determined by how many students apply to each major and what their eligibility indices are. A given major may be more or less popular than it was last year, so the thresholds may change.

With a 3.5 GPA (calculated the CSU way) and an SAT CR+M of 1200, your eligibility index will be 3.5 * 800 + 1200 = 4000. You may also want to consider taking the ACT to see if you do better on it than on the SAT.

I’m focusing on the upcoming SAT in March first Ucbalumnus. I’ll consider the ACT in April depending on cost and time. and Yes, My index is around 4000 which is far above then 3500 asked for out of staters but SJSU’s civil engineering program has a minimum 4100 which is seems barely out of my reach =</p>
