SJSU transfer questions

I am planning to apply to San Jose state this october for the Fall of 2013. I had a couple questions. One, how does choosing your major affect things. Is their a choice for a backup major? My next question is, how long does it take to learn if I have been accepted or denied.

Yes, it matters. Different majors have different GPA thresholds depending on the applicant pool and spaces available. Check the link out for a general idea of the gpas needed–but note this is SPRING 2012 and the Fall numbers will DEFINITELY be quite different. In other words, use this link as a very generic guide:

From what I recall, transfer students can hear back anytime from end of January to as late as May. They accept students in batches and one might have to wait until the very end of the acceptance period to know.

SJSU accepts via GPA by major–starting with “local” CCC students. Are you local to SJSU? That helps immensely.

Thanks for the reply. No I am not in the local area, I go to Napa Valley College about 75 miles away.

I found the Fall 2012 Impaction page, which is probably more indicative of what Fall 2013 will look like. Check out your major that you will indicate on your application and see if your GPA is game because SJSU is all GPA driven…and as a non-local you will need to meet the threshold. Of course, the real threshold for 2013 you won’t know but at least this gets you in the ballpark.
