SJSU vs Cal Poly Pomona

I'm a high school senior from Las Vegas, Nevada and I've already applied to SDSU in San Diego.

Here's my profile/chance page if you want to see it: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1568862-application-weekend-ill-chance-back.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1568862-application-weekend-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

I want to major in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning and I know that both SJSU and Cal Poly Pomona are both very good in these areas. I know Cal Poly Pomona has the biggest engineering school in the West and that San Jose has some of the best opportunities for jobs in the Silicon Valley. I don't really want to fork over 165 dollars in application fees to I want to keep it down to two schools. Which should I apply for? SJSU? Or Cal Poly Pomona? If you need any info about my academics and what not, again, look at my chance page^ Thanks!

Your stats are good but I wouldn’t think you are guaranteed admission at CPP. I don’t know much about SJSU’s program, but if you for sure want to come to California, I think you should apply to both. The application fee is small compared to travel and tuition costs over 4 years.

After calculating, UNLV + UNR + SDSU + UCI + CPP totals 300 dollars already in just application fees…

Are you eligible for any fee waivers on the basis of low income?

If you are guaranteed admission at both UNLV and UNR, why not choose ahead of time which of those you’d rather attend as a backup and eliminate one application?

Have you calculated all costs plus OOS tuition for the California schools plus travel expenses? Would you be better off financially staying in Nevada?

Yes I have Calia1 and of course staying in Nevada is better financially for me but academically? Nevada’s education system is very weak and some would say, mediocre, and I feel there may be better opportunities for me in California even at the cal states. All I’ll say is that my family income is not valid for fee waivers so no getting out of these fees… but thanks for your concern Calia1!
