I originally posted this in the College Search Forum but I was wondering if the engineering forum would yield any extra help for me...

I'm a high school senior from Las Vegas, Nevada and I've already applied to SDSU in San Diego.

Here's my profile/chance page if you want to see it: Application Weekend! I'll chance back!

I want to major in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning and I know that both SJSU and Cal Poly Pomona are both very good in these areas. I know Cal Poly Pomona has the biggest engineering school in the West and that San Jose has some of the best opportunities for jobs in the Silicon Valley. I don't really want to fork over 165 dollars in application fees to I want to keep it down to two schools. Which should I apply for? SJSU? Or Cal Poly Pomona? If you need any info about my academics and what not, again, look at my chance page^ Thanks!

Why do you give a crap about Silicon Valley if you are trying to get into civil engineering or urban planning?

Silicon Valley is mostly Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, etc.

i would pick SJSU because both colleges are equal in terms of academic opportunities, but SJSU provides the edge because of its location. you can get internships/co-ops easier if u go to SJSU, since the bay area can offer lot of engineering internships

Thanks Nitsua and tigerash. Even if Silicon Valley doesn’t provide much in terms of civil engineering jobs, its still a prosperous area that I’ll consider settling in… The attractive thing of Cal Poly Pomona is the close location to Vegas and the fact that it is “polytechnic”. I also hear that SJSU has a better engineering program overall compared to SDSU which is impressive… Anyone else have anymore contrasting details about each of them?
