Skateboarding vs Longboarding?

Hey all,

I'll be joining you guys this fall as a freshman at UPenn. I've been starting a lot of hobbies over the summer (for mostly fun and enjoyment, but also for a bit of practicality) and was wondering how people get around UPenn. I realize that it's cold most of the time during the school year, but do people ride skateboards or longboards often? If so, which one is more commonly ridden?

*I'm not looking for some skateboarding club or anything, just wanting to know the most commonly used form of transportation.

there are certainly some of each type around, but the most common method is bicycles (though you cannot bike on locust walk during the day)

well longboarding is much more common as a form of transportation. i feel more like skateboarding is more for doing tricks and stuff. besides longboards are much smoother and overall better for getting around

that said, i wouldn’t really advise bringing a longboard. i live in a small surfing town so im accustomed to getting around on my longboard during the summer, but its more difficult getting around penn. you definitely cannot use the longboard around most of locust walk and on the inside of the campus because its stone bricks which leaves big gaps in between. only being able to ride in the streets sort of negates the purpose of using a longboard for easy transportation.

id definitely advise a bike…that’s what im bring next year since ill be living in the high rises and all my classes are in drl and the chem building
