well, like we’ve mentioned, it does vary from school to school, but teachers are really (read: way too) lax about free period. my crazy physics teacher ranted to me once in the hallway about how he was going to write down the names of every junior that had walked past him and out the building since free period had started 10 minutes earlier, but was completely oblivious to the fact that I was strolling down the hallway talking to him when I should’ve been at the other end of the building sitting in my classroom. well then.

Honestly plenty of people skip it at our school, and never get caught. I don’t really understand why so many people dislike it. I think it’s one of the best parts of school (but I’m in United Student Body so I help set it up, and I usually have an active part in it so…) I don’t really see much adrenaline coming from skipping a pep rally…it’s not even like skipping a class. I however dont think anyone should be forced to do something recreational like a pep rally, and am all for you skipping it if you dont wanna go. Unless youre the only one doing it I doubt youll get caught.

Not required to go to Rallys at all
Skip! Take risks, get around security… Just don’t hurt the school or anyone… Like alumni sneaking back onto campus each day and being able to get away.

Wow some of you guys are sooo uptight. Its just a pep rally, relax guys. You guys make it seem like you’ve never done anything wrong in your lives. No fun in that.

Yeah it depends on the school but at my school, its not that hard to skip pep rally since the school is so big. I personally skipped pep rally and i dont regret it cuz i got to hang out with my friends and I think the pep rallies at my school are lame anyways.

So in reality, it really isnt a big deal if you go or not so long as you’re smart about it.

This thread is hilarious. I never go to our “pep rallies”…haha. If you don’t want to go, don’t go. I guarantee you that you won’t be the only one, and I can bet that your school has better things to do than try and catch every student from leaving.

napalm2013- My school has parking lot cameras that are actually monitored and only one way out of the lot which is right by both the teacher lot and the offices.

I skipped them all the time, just drove off. You’re right, they’re not worth an hour or even a minute of your life, and that’s all the justification you need. What will they do, send you to detention for an hour if caught? Same thing

Do you know your school’s policy if they catch you? Skipping the Rally might not be a big deal, but leaving the property (particularly when you parent has already told you not to), might be a bigger concern. Our Seniors can arrive late if they hae a first period study hall, and leave early with one last period. They also are not required to be in their study halls as long as they’re not disruptive (and have a courtyard where only Seniors can hang out). If they are caught leaving the school grounds without permission, they lose all those privileges, and face in-school suspension. The smart kids might skip out of the rally and go to the library, but they don’t leave the grounds, because any ISS days means missing class, and falling behind. They don’t get extra time to complete the work - it is collected by the ISS supervisor, and new assignments are given. If you miss the lecture covering the material in your homework, you have to wait until after school and hope someone else took good enough notes. It’s not a risk the smart kids are willing to take.

Are you willing to face the consequences if you get caught? It sounds to me like you’re not.

I ended up not skipping it, but I plan on skipping the next one. My mom was more paranoid than I was, so I leveraged not going into free pizza and beer.

Pep rally was hilariously skippable though. I ended up being the last senior to get into the gym (took a detour to the bathroom to blow my nose due to allergies), and had to sit by myself on the rightmost section of bleachers in the gym because there was no room anywhere else. Bleeeh awkward.
