Lately I haven't had any troubles sleeping, but it's currently 3:38 AM and I can't sleep at all, so it seems as if my problems have beginning to reemerge.

I had problems sleeping a month before the SAT as well.
The night before the SAT in June I slept around maybe 30minutes, cause I was tossing and turning all night in bed.

I really want to be at my best for the SAT this coming October (I'm a senior) and I've been prepping fairly well so far.

When I'm unable to sleep, it's like something is preventing me from doing so, not sure what it is; it's all mental..
**
How do you guys manage to get in a good couple of hours before the SAT?** I don't want a repeat of my 30minutes. Lately on weekdays now that school has started I sleep at 1-2 AM and get around 5-6 hours of sleep, then come home and sleep for another 3 hours.

Melatonin doesn't work at all, I took about 2-4 tablets of that the night before the SAT in June and also drank 2 cups of chamomile tea - ALL TO NO AVAIL. Seriously considering prescription drugs or something to make me drowsy, but I know that inhibits REM sleep, which is te best...

It seems I dont have problem sleeping once it's after school, maybe I should try sleeping the day before the SAT right after I get home and get into 5-7 hours that way and then spend the rest of the time waiting for the SAT? I dunno..I'm pretty crazy.

Seriously though, those tapes do wonders. You can get deep, relaxing sleep.

I was going through a bad patch of issues in the middle, and sleep was incredibly hard to get. Even if I did sleep, it would be full of vicious dreams, and didn't make me feel rested at all.

The tapes calm your whole body down, and give you deep, peaceful sleep.

I had/have the same problem. I've tried hypnosis but personally, for me it was kind of a waste of time/money. Then again, it works for some people, and not for others. Make sure that you practice it before the night before the test to make sure that it works for you.
However, the best thing to do is to go to your doctor and explain the situation. He or she will probably perscribe a small amount something that will essentially knock you out no matter the circumstances. Good Luck :)

didnt sleep at all for my first ACT- got a 32
didnt sleep and got drunk on my 2nd- 33
haha i guess my mind's fine under the WORST conditions possible
fully rested SAT, though: 2040

^LOL....
Maybe you would have gotten that score on the SAT anyways?
The SAT is different from the ACT, it's still around your ACT score, though.
Some people do better on the ACT than the SAT.

Try valerian. It's a natural herb. I used it when I'm mentally too worked up, and it calms my brain down. Try it before you take the SAT, though. It generally doesn't make me groggy, but you might need a few days to get used to it anyway.

I would turn on loud, obnoxious, techno music. It stops me from thinking about the SAT and get a good night sleep.
:], try this song ParagonX9 - Chaoz Fantasy

im the kind of guy who will fail a test if i dont get enough sleep. for the sat/act, i would just sleep as much as i can on the regular school days a week before the test. not just naps but actually sleep from like 11 or so to 7:00. its a lot easier to sleep a few days before a test. oh yea and dont prep a lot the week before either.

the night before the act i literally got 0 hrs, tossing and turning in bed, but i got a 33, probably cuz of all that sleep build up. the sat i got a 2050 :/

Who needs to sleep before the SAT? The sections have some much extra time that you can probably get at least 30-45 mins of sleep in during the test. That should be enough to last you the whole day.

Yeah. I live in Texas, so Hurricane Ike has sort of kept me from the forums for a while. But now that my power is back, I am glad to give my wonderful advice to needy people like you.
