On the night before a large test (for school or the APs or the SATIIs- not really the SAT1's or PSATs), is it better to sleep or stay up late and cram? I have heard various theories on both and I was wondering what you guys thought...

Math - Sleep, once you understand the concepts
History, or anything that requires lots of last minute memorization or reading - Study

math or history or english, etc... sleep 10 hours, no less.
why cram? at least cram the day before! have a clear mind before you take the test.

i suggest cramming. but thats just me cuz i can never fall asleep when im taking an SAT or AP the next day.

Since I know so far in advance when I'm taking the APs and SAT IIs, I switch into high-gear: hardcore studying for months - and then plan to take the night before off.

For school tests, when I only know about them a few days in advance, I'll stay up late and wake up early to cram.

Depends on how your body works. I'm starting to find that the less sleep I get, the more fresh I am in the morning. Then I usually fall asleep in the afternoon. When I get a lot of sleep, I'm more tired in the morning and afternoon. My eyes are heavier. Then, in the evening, I have tons of energy. Figure your patterns out.

aim..thats similiar to the way i am..when i pull all nighters..in school im all hyped and up and yayyy whoaaa in pplz faces..and then i come home and then i get all tired..but when i sleep like 8 hours..i just dont wanna get up..and its harder to focus..i think i wont sleep..ehh

School- study
Standarized tests- sleep

Reasoning tests- Sleep.
Essay tests- Sleep.
Problem solving tests- Sleep.
Spitting back random facts without analysis tests- Study.

Sleeping is a fair bet, when in doubt.

heh..im gonna be fastin while i take my exam..nooo water..no food..must drink coffee at 4 am

sexydesi, you n00b. its all about red bull :P

am i the only one who thinks your should sleep no matter what? no matter how much you know, if you're tired you're gonna forget things and make careless mistakes. This is especially important on tests like the SAT and certain subject tests where they try to trip you up. For standardized tests, you should have been studying for a while (a week or more). For school tests, you should know the stuff from, well, school. I personally consider cramming to be a sign of someone who's already doomed to some degree.

but red bull..is disgusttttinnn eeeeeek!

I watched the debate
had fun with friends partying
didn't worry
fell asleep late
came to the testing center late
and owned the test.
But that's rare.

lol. i usually study and then end up falling asleep. i think the main problem is i only get 5-6 hrs of sleep a night even without tests.

same here ..erm..soo i find myself falling asleep round 3...or 2..either way..soo even if i wanted to study..i cant ..

desi means indian right? indian guy i think?

desi has no gender assigned to it...but it means like indian south asian bengali ya know..

Generally speaking, high school tests aren't worth losing sleep over.

i usually study for hs test..the period b4..its the best way..soo u remember things for like three periods..and ur good..
