I wear contacts acuvue advance with hydroclear to be specific, and though I've never done anything more than take naps of >1hour or so in them, I'm wondinering how much damage if any would be done by falling asleep for the night in them. I'm planning an event where it would be quite likely that I fall asleep still wearing them without realizing it, and I'm wondering if I'd need to take some special precautions or anything to not damage my eyes. Obviously if I did sleep in them I'd have rewetting drops and everything like that the next morning. I know my opthemologist said it's not a good idea, but i'm asking how bad of an idea is it, I know the hydroclears are supposed to be better in that way, but I'm hoping someone on here would have more in depth info.

You'll be fine. I don't sleep in mine, but I have friends who forget to take them out all the time. Your eyes will probably feel a little dry and your contacts may be a little out of place and uncomfortable, but don't worry about it.

to clarify, I'm talking about sleeping in them overnight, just in case that wasn't clear.

I've heard stories about poeple who sleep in their contacts and thent he contacts go into the back of their eyes because most people's eyes roll inward when we sleep. I dunno how the contacts came out, but I'm really afraid that that might happen.

It won't happen. I know a lot of kids who fall asleep in their contacts after parties or whatever, and all of them still have their eyeballs. There are horror stories for everything you do, but they shouldn't stop you.

actually, my little sister slept in her accuvue astigmatism contacts for like 6 hrs. after wearing them for a day, and they were stuck to her eyeballs, she had to have them removed by a doctor. so it may depend on how long you have your contacts in before you sleep in them.

Mine got stuck to the inside of my eyelid once when I slept in them. I also had a contact break into two pieces inside my eye once. Both times I managed to get the contacts out, but yeah it can happen and no, it isn't fun.

Why, grandma, what sticky sclera you have.

I think one time would be okay, but not on a regular basis if they are not meant for that. I thought Acuvues were okay for sleeping. My Freshlooks are beautiful, but you can't sleep in them, which really sucks when you come back home at 2 AM and just want to hit the sack. But I wouldn't change to Acuvue Colours because those look so fake.

i guess accuvue for astigmatism are bad for sleeping, whereas normal accuvues aren't.

it would be a one time thing, where chances are I will fall asleep after a sleepover party type thing and not even realize it if you guys get what I'm saying. I'm pretty sure I remember the hydroclear contacts advertised for sleeping, but I havn't seen it in a while. Anyone else remember something like this? And I don't have astigmatism or anything, and they're soft contact lenses and everything.

You should probably check out the website. It was pretty useful when I was trying to decide which brand was best. Or look on the box.

Astigmatism contacts are different than normal contacts. You couldn't even get them in the not too distant past.

But, yeah, I totally just got owned in this post, it seems. haha

I sleep with mines in for intervals up to 1/2 yr. I've been doing this for many years, and have no problems during checkups. They're old version acuvues, soft.

yeah... i haven't taken mine out for a few days, and i'm fine. I dunno, I'll probably go blind or something, but as of now i'm good.

hmm, ok thanks guys. If I can remember I'll take them out, but it shoulnd't kill me to sleep for 6 or so hours with them in.

Haha, I've racked far over 1000 hrs with my current pair...6 is no problem. In the morning you may wake up with some dry eyes...just rub and it goes away.

I wear the 1 month disposable ones but I wear them for like 3 months.. (not the ones where you wear at night)

I once slept with them on for about 3 hrs and when I woke up, I could see just fine but I had a hard time taking them out. They were stuck to my eyeballs and it was so weird peeling them off..

Whoa TropicalTriceps, how do you manage that? My eyes start getting uncomfortable when I have my contacts (one-month ones) in for like 12 hours at a time.

Also, my one-month contacts get extremely difficult to wear around the end of the month...they get really irritating and tend to slide around on my eye.

^ I have an opposite effect. Mine starts to get really dry and it's difficult to move around on my eye, and my vision gets all foggy.
