Sls

Any word from the participants of session one (parents)? I am really looking forward to it but I have no idea what to expect. Also, do I have to take my PAE there? I'm not ready pushup and situp wise and I haven't practiced the illustrious basketball throw.

YES
You take a PAE that goes into your admissions file

don't sweat tho b/c even if you don't do well, you still get to re-due it as part of the regular admissions process.... but I guess for those studs out there who are in tip-top shape, if you get all ur scores in the top quartile... one less thing to worry about in the admissions process

Just have fun at SLS... I had a BLAST!!! Spirit missions, PT, Camp Bukner, even the classes were great!

dont worry.. they won't kick your butt (too hard atleast)

awesome, thanks ttby!

Michaelburt - I heard from my son last night. He is having a blast at sls this week. They took the PAE on Sunday afternoon, and were told that their percentiles would be mailed to them.

We got our scores the day after we took our PAE last year. Didn't get a percentile, just fail, marginal, good, excellent, and superior. LOTS of kids failed. You must practice!

hastellion - did you have the option to have them not count your scores and retake it once you get home?

I failed everything at the IAW's PAE. It did not reflect, though people who passed got LOA's I believe, though that was after they completed their packet.

did you get an appointment nick?

Michaelburt - They count your score... it goes straight to ur admissions file (at least that's what they told us) it doesn't matter tho... u get to take it again when you receive your application anyway.. don't sweat it.. plus when you take it back home, and when you have your Coach/phys Ed. teacher/liason officer, take your scores they will cut you alot more slack than the cadets will when they score

E.g, during the pull ups I did about 12 pull ups but the cadet only couted 6 b/c my chin wasn't COMPLETELY past the bar.... Tehy didn't count about 20 of my push ups b/c I think I crossed my legs or something.... The cadets won't cut you alot of slack with the scoring but when you take it again, who ever grades ur PAE will cut you a break

"people who passed got LOA's I believe, though that was after they completed their packet."

My daughter did well on her PAE at the seminar last summer but her LOA came a month before she actually even received her packet (abt 30 days after seminar), so it can happen pretty quickly with " all your ducks in a row". She told me they do make sure that you do the exercises properly at the SLS. I would advise learning to do them correctly no matter who administers the test to you. In the end you will be expected to do that and a lot more if you get into the academy. Good Luck everyone!

Yes, but it took a while.

As Shogun points out, performance at the summer program is monitored and noted. While a good score on the PAE alone won't get you a letter of assurance, I expect a poor score would preclude you from receiving an early LOA.

Shogun's advice to have all your paperwork in order early is on the mark. At his suggestion our son sent in his final junior year transcript (not available at time of summer program application) and updated activities shortly after finishing the summer program. Shortly after, he received his LOA in early August - before he had received his application package.

Good luck.

In your admissions file, I think it's read as "pass/fail" and they don't really give a hoot whether you get a marginal or a superior. I got a "marginal" by the skin of my teeth at the IAW, which completely punctured my ego balloon, believe me...

I know that's technically a pass, but it never showed up on my Candidate profile online. When I retook the PAE (with much better results, thank you) and sent it in, THEN the profile popped up. It was never of any consequence, since I'm in now, but I've always wondered whether or not I'd have been accepted if I hadn't retaken the PAE. Was it a computer glitch? Or did my admisions officer just not bother putting my IAW PAE on the profile? I guess I'll never know...

And my track coach did not cut me ANY slack during my retake. I guess I should have tried my XC coach instead.

just got back from sls. This time they rate it "overall risk" which is a fail or "no risk" which is a pass. They didn't count almost 15 of my pushups for not going down all the way. Also discounted one of my shuttle runs and two pull ups. Other than that I had a blast

Michaelburt,

Camp Buckner and the boat ride were my favorite activities there.

If you can survive being yelled at, waking up early in the morning for some PT, and hygiene in less than 20 min. total, then you will have a great time. Making your bed will take some practice, but after that you will be an excellent bed maker. One kid from second platoon didn't want to mess up his "perfectly" made bed so he slept on his desk! Haha, all of the cadet cadre made fun of him (and reprimanded him) for that. Spirit missions are fun: some of the platoon/squad mottos were hillarious.

Just go there and have fun. All of the cadet sergeants are really cool once you get to know them. Take a lot of pictures! You might want to bring 2 cameras. I wish I had taken more, but I ran out of pictures. And also guys, remember to stay off of the girls' floor. One kid was sent back home for being caught on the girls' floor 3 times.

The guy that was sent home got caught twice I think.

And nobody really yelled ...

You obviously weren't in 4th platoon for the first session. The last night we ****ed off our PSG something fierce...It was no bueno, let me tell you.

No, I was in 2nd.

It was not a pretty site. He came in and started throwing around beds and screaming and ranting. What were you guys?
