SMART Scholarship ?

Yeah… just got one saying I am not a semi-finalist. Really depressing… but I guess I’ll just apply again this fall.

rkbgt: Are you an undergrad? What’s your major? I’m just curious what they’re looking for in a semi-finalist so maybe I can do better next year. Good luck in the rest of the process

I also got an email today (02/17/10) saying that I was one of 1300 semi-finalists.

For anyone that is interested I am on my 3rd year of undergrad, I am double majoring in Information Technology and Psychology and I do have some research experience from working in a visual research lab over the summer.

Good luck to everyone!

Disregard.

I was selected as a semi finalist. Sophomore undergrad in Aerospace Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I doubt many high school seniors and freshman/sophomores made the first cut.

What’d everyone pick as their three preferences?
Mine go:

 1. Pax River
 2. Arnold Air Base (TN)
 3. Cherry Point

Yeah I’m a sophomore engineer at Tufts University majoring in Biomedical Engineering and minoring in computer science. I think that aside from having a harder time getting accepted as a sophomore, it’s probably also harder because I am a only a computer science minor and BME is not the most necessary field for the DoD. I don’t think that they need many geneticists for the army haha.

yeay! I’m a freshman and apparently also one of the semifinalists. w007!!! I said I was a pre-med though… I really hope that doesn’t screw me over. Doctors work for the DOD. PS: I have research experience. I think that is THE only reason I made it past the first cut. We’ll see…

Also a semi-finalist. I am a senior Computer Science major, Mathematics minor, entering into a Master’s degree program next year.

My daughter is a freshman at WPI, majoring in Bio-chemistry, she got accepted as a semi-finalist Good job everyone that has been selected.

Whether selected or not, good job to everyone. You are all winners.

Phone interviews have begun.

How do you know phone interviews have begun? Did you get a call?

A friend of mine applied also, and he had an interview with the Army Corpse of Engineers today.

I really hope the fact that I haven’t gotten a call yet doesn’t mean I’m out of the race.

I am a semifinalist again! I too have not been contacted for an interview yet.

However, not all hope is lost. I was chosen to be an “Alternate” last year. I think that means I was one of the 400 selected by the sponsors, but not one of the 250 or who given awards.

From what I hear, if you get an interview you are golden. Just don’t mess it up.

Has anyone else not received their fingerprint cards yet?

hey everyone, I was also notified that I am a semifinalist. I’m a sophomore mechanical engineering major at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. I also do have some previous research work.

Yahyah
I have received my fingerprint card. If you haven’t already you should probably make sure your contact info is correct as we were supposed to receive them by the 26th of February.

Also, I have not received any phone interviews yet.

good luck everyone!

If you haven’t seen your SF-87s yet you definitely need to get a hold of them for a set. I’ve already mailed mine back. I’ve gotten an interview as well, and I’m curious if anyone that has had an interview; had it with one of their preferences or another facility altogether.

They were late on sending out the SF-87s due to the weather in DC two weeks ago. However, you still should have received them about a week ago. If you don’t know, the deadline to return them was extended to 3/12.

Hi,

I just mailed my fingerprint cards to the address stated in the envelope we all received. Out of curiosity, if we don’t get a call from any of the DOD agencies, does that mean we are out of the running?

I ask because I still have not received a phone interview from any of the agencies. I don’t know if specifying “no preference” has any bearing on final decisions.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I received an email a few weeks back saying that I had made the first cut (yaay). I received my finger print cards in the mail maybe ten days ago and I have already had my finger prints taken and sent it back.

I haven’t received any phone calls but I did get to meet the coordinator of the program at Dahlgren (not one I applied to) at an NAVSEA event at my university, and he said that he has already picked his interns out and was sending back his choices plus alternatives this week.

Apparently if you are selected as an alternative you still have a good chance of being selected because the selection process is a draft, so if you are an alternative and one person before you gets selected by another outpost you will slide up and fill their spot.

Also, he did say that there is a good chance for undergraduates at public universities since they are cheaper. The way he explained the program is he is given a set dollar amount, say one million dollars, to spend on his interns. So if there is someone applying from a college with tuition of 8000/year or 50,000/year for a four year scholarship then the coordinator may not want to spend as much of a percentage of his/her allotted dollar amount on the private university student.

He also talked about the Naval Acquistion Intern Program that is for people that already have their degrees. It seemed pretty interesting as well.

Good luck to everyone in the final selection process
