I am currently a senior in high school and I am thinking about transferring to Smith sophomore year or if possible as a second semester freshman. Is it possible to apply freshman year of college as a spring transfer? (Since a lot of threads of college confidential for smith transfer consists of people trying to transfer in their sophomore or junior year)
I was not able to apply as a freshman since my parents did not want me to but since I am 18 now and I will start working so I’ll some how try to persuade them lol
I am not sure if I’m going to a local state school or a community college but I was just wondering if anyone actually transferred to smith for their second semester of freshman year. I read somewhere ( I think in the Smith website or college board website) that 64 maximum credits from a 2 year or a 4 year institution are needed so does that mean that I have to get 64 credits in college in order to transfer to Smith? Lol I’m so confused on that aspect so can anyone clarify that? And do you think that going to a 4 year state school is better than going to a community college if I was to apply as a Spring transfer freshman year? Thank you very much.
Most colleges at Smith’s level of selectivity don’t accept spring applications or transfers. You also will still need your parents to cooperate with financial aid paperwork. My advice is to make the most of whatever college your parents will support.
I think you should call or email the AdCom. I’m sure they would want to help you.
@nyanninjyaa99, you can transfer the second semester of freshman year.

Your biggest concern is that if you’re applying for FA, your parents have to be cooperative and be willing to submit the FA forms. FA is calculated using your parents’ income, assets, etc.
You have to have completed a semester, but Im not sure they will accept the transfer for spring. It would be for fall admission, I assume. This is a duplicate thread, too.
Thank you for the responses! I know that if I complete one semester at a school, I’m able to apply as a transfer but I’m just confused about the 64 credits thing. Does it mean that I have to have completed 64 credits in the first semester of college in order to qualify as second semester transfer?
@intparent – Smith has spring transfer.

OP – maybe you could ask the Smith admissions office their best advice about the timing of your intended transfer. They would know best. Also, building a relationship with an AdCom is beneficial. They can begin to see from your correspondence (keep it businesslike) what a good candidate you are.
64 maximum credits means that you need to have less than 64.
