it is another snow day here. we have had 2 1/2 snow days so far this year. i assume that there are no snow days at boarding school. ah, the sacrifices one must make.....

we don't get snow days anyhow, ut diesn't really snow here! that's one of the things i'm looking forward to about bs the snow!

bring your skis to sps, nelly.

In rare cases, there are snow days at bs. My son probably had 1 or 2 during his 4 years at NMH; my younger son has had none yet, but did have an early release as the prof. lived a ways off campus.

Last year at my boarding school we had two snow days. So far this year we've had one early release because there was a huge snowstorm coming in. The roads were soooo bad, one of my friends had to stay over because she said it was too dangerous to drive home.

The snow days are mostly for day students who can't get to campus. Boarding students are expected to attend class unless it's a blizzard outside. I have had an occasional class off when the teacher lives off campus, but not a full snow day.

I think it depends on how many day students a school has. Even then, mostly they have class, but have a policy that gives some discretion to parents about driving their kids to school in bad weather.
I wouldn't expect a snow day ever at St. Paul's...although they had a few flood days a couple of years ago...

I have 3 boarding school kids here now so I asked. Choate and Blair would only have snow days for rare circumstances (to date they haven't had one). The Loomis kid said that they do have snow days because of the 40% day population.

EBS has snow days and if there is no snow for a snow day then they make snow! Sorry, I know, pre-prep but just had to mention it.

footballer-totally bringing the skis, can't wait! do you ski?

yes, nelly. love to ski. i race for an olympic jr devo program. sps skis at a place near me called pat's peak.

My hometown has had 4 snow days and 2 delays...THIS year.
Ahh, to be in CT freezing my buns off. Some say its magical...most say that global warming is welcomed :p

I've had two snow days, and my sister has had around four snow days and three delays, but she goes to school in a semi-rural / suburban place, and I go to school right outside of a city.

You've all had snow days? I haven't had a snowday since... fifth grade? I think. Even on Valentine's Day last year, they still made us go to school, and we had to wait an hour to get all the teachers in.
Heck, on that day, every other school district (all the ones SURROUNDING us) had snow days. But we didn't.

In the history of SPS,
there has never been a snowday.

There has been a sick day, in which such a large percent of the population of students were sick they canceled school, but never a day canceled for snow.

(info taken straight from a faculty member who has taught for 40 years)

Andover's had two snow days ever. It was when it was so bad that the students in Abbot (ABB!) would have been in danger if they left their dorms, period.

wow, that would be so much fun to be locked ina dorm cuz of a blizzard! i'm so excited about the snow!!!

Didn't sps get out two weeks early a couple eyars ago b/c of flooding.

Exeter hasn't had a snow day since world war I (or maybe II), only b/c the students had to dig out the train tracks.

Nelly, the 1st and 2nd time are a joy. However, after that is when the re-runs of "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" start playing over and over from 9 AM-5 PM. At that point, risking hypothermia would be a logical option :)

Any boarding school that has a snow day should rename itself "Weenie Academy".
