So...cargo shorts...

<p>I'll be going to college in central virginia at JMU, and from this board i've heard that cargo shorts are...frowned upon...</p>

<p>Are these rumors just the rantings of some scrawny kid whose been shoved in lockers all through highschool and claims to begin a new life by wearing shorts without pockets on the sides? Or is this actually something to be aware of?</p>

<p>I'm 6'4" 235...I can never find a pair of flat front shorts that fit. I only have a pair...which of course would be set asides for parties, dates, etc. Everything I find either has the right inseem but its too big around or the inseem is too short. I guess i'm just shaped weirdly, I'm not fat im just big. </p>

<p>So in short, are cargo shorts really a big deal? Its not like they have a million pockets, just two on the side near the thigh, and theyre really clean cut too, not like something youd see some dude exploring the amazon in. <p>JMU is a commuter school with lots of adults. I doubt most people would care. I have shorts like that. Shrug…</p>

<p>I don’t think anybody actually gives a **** about cargo shorts in real life. It’s mostly just loud posturing on the Internet where people try to feel better about their lives by putting down others based on nothing but a style of shorts that they wear. I’ve never gotten crap in real life for it. You get some tools on this website who think they’re “unprofessional” and I just have to wonder what the hell kind of school they go to where they have to dress like they’re going to a board meeting. They think that if you wear cargos then you wear them all the time, including to job interviews and funerals. </p>

<p>tl;dr nobody gives a **** about cargo shorts unless they’re insecure</p>

<p>Some people like them, others don’t. I personally don’t, but that really doesn’t matter. Just wear what you want honestly.</p>

<p>I doubt it would matter at most colleges. Worst case scenario, if your the only person wearing them the first week of class, go ahead and replace them if you feel out of place. I’ve seen people show up for class in lounge pants and bedroom slippers. I go to class in whatever happens to be clean, usually that’s jeans, flipflops and a t-shirt and I have yet to feel out of place. I will probably start dressing nicer now that it’s my last couple years and I’m starting to work on classes in my major and will need references. My last few electives though I’ll be dressing very casual… lol</p>

<p>I don’t usually mind when guys wear cargo shorts, but the other day I was talking to my friends and they were all like “he was wearing cargo shorts? ah, well, sometimes they just don’t know any better” and I was like “…oh, yeah, cargo shorts, yuck…”</p>

<p>But the thing is, if you want to wear them, go for it. It doesn’t really matter what you wear, as long as you’re wearing clothes.</p>

<p>The other day I went for a ride in a car and brought along headphones. We had to park the car in a parking lot, the type where a valet parks it for you. I decided to take my headphones with me just in case. Had I not been wearing cargos I would have had to wear them around my neck like some tool. Instead I just folded them and put 'em in a cargo pocket :cool:</p>
