It's the end if the semester. I have a's in all of my other 6 rigorous classes. But there is one problem. I have a B+ in Pre-Calc honors. Now in the beginning of the year I fell into a slight depression because of a death of a family member, nothing clinical, and my teacher knows this too b/c i cried in her class. But i have been doing better and even got an "a" on the final. I really want an "a" in the class and im so close to it. Should I ask her to review past tests to see if she might've taken off to much points, should I ask her for extra credit (aready somewhat tried),how can i ask her, she is really stubborn and is really techincal with points. Thanks in advance.

are you a senior?

if so, just forget it unless you're applying to like Yale.

if you are not a senior, be cautious coz some teachers dont like points grubbing. maybe you can ask for an extra assn/project if you are very close, or talk to ur counselor.

I was about three points off an A last semester, panicked, asked if I could turn in anything extra and the teacher ended up rounding the grades to make mine an A. I think he was going to anyway... but it doesn't hurt to ask.

no im not a senoir. but i have to mantain my 4.0 g.p.a. in order to apply to colleges like yale. It's like i think i had the full potential and prob. could have gotten it really easily, it's just distractions like a broken finger and lost family member that made me fall behind in the beginning of the year. but the thing is i don't think the counselor can do much. But thanks for the reply

^

You could ask?! But, you have to ask what it is you could do to turn your grade from a B to an A. Be firm and see what happens.

Now, if that does not work. You just have to take the B. It is hard fro one to earn near perfect scores in math, alright? I am pretty sure Yale or some place like that will not think you dumb for a B in a higher math at all.

I am not that far out of high school and am now at University. I am a total math geek, even though that is not my major. Every semester I take a math class, even though I do not have to. I have witnessed some math majors flip the freak out over a B and I do not see that point in doing that at all. It is impossible to keep perfect marks in math forever and everyone knows it. No shame in a B, dude.

Thanks for your reply, I just wanted to know like how to ask her though, because I have never done this before and my teacher is really intimdating. Should I ask her like as you can see, "i got an "a" on the final, i know that my test scores were not that great but as you already know i had a rough school start but I know the concept and I understand everything that we have learned in class and I believe I deserve an "a", could you please sugggest any extra credit (but then she might say that it's unfair to the other students you know, but then again life happens.)" Could I say something like that to her and be life I really put in a lot of effort into this class but life happens.

if you're a couple of points away, go for it. If you're a couple of percentage points away...don't bother. You got a B because that is what you deserved.

I totally know how you feel with the 4.0 thing and all. I'm kind of OCD, but when I was at risk of getting a B, it just KILLED me knowing that it could never be a 4 again and would be some strange 3.99999 number. I would definately talk to this teacher. I would let her know what the stakes are. Explain the circumstances of the death or w/e, and just see if there's anything you can do.

omfg...i no EXATLY how you feel...my grandpa died this quarter along with a friend ( i also had surgery on my foot, my dad had a heart attack type thing and my grandma and mom got diagnosed with 2 deadly diseases) but my precalc teacher is rly nice and allowed my grade to be changed to an A but none of my other teachers were as nice.i was a point away in history but no he wouldn't give it to me....anyways i think its always worth a shot to get the points

I should try to make my GPA 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510982097494459230781... :D

That would be simply...amazing.

if you have 7 classes per year:

get total 22 if A=4, B=3,C=2... so maybe 4 A's, and 3 C's

22/7 approx=pi

yeah, just talk to the teacher, i think some other people made good points about how to ask. If worse comes to worse and you are forced to keep your B, just make sure that when you apply to Yale (or any other college) that you write a personal statement stating the special circumstances that you were under and the college will probably overlook the B.

I remember my freshman year I had well over 1,000 points accounting for my math class' grade, and I was literally one point away from an A but the teacher wouldn't give it to me. Many teachers, math teachers especially, tend to be very concrete-sequential people.
