Upset, unsure of what to do

To make a long story short, I was 1 point away from getting a "B" as a final grade in Chem leaving me with a "C" as my definite final grade in the class. I was pretty upset and literally begged my teacher to just give me that extra point, but she refused to do so. I told my mom and she offered to go talk to my teacher personally, but I'm not sure if this would make a difference. Should I write her an e-mail instead?

If you were one point away from getting a B, that means you got a C, fairly and surely. It sucks, but that's the way it works. If you had gotten one point above a B, would it be fair to give you a C?

Don't have your mom contact your teacher; that's childish. You already asked your teacher to make an exception, and she refused. Earn your grades. Learn from this and move on. You'll do better next time by knowing it takes a slight bit more to get the grades you want.

The only suggestion I have is for you to offer to do some extra work to earn the point, like an extra paper or something. That's what I did when I was a point short of an A in my sophomore lit class.

Umm...you got a C...you were one point away from a B, so you got a C. That's what you earned, that's what you get...why should the teacher just give you a point you didn't earn? Just move on.

people here are being really harsh....
i agree with southeasttitan in that you can try offering an extra work or something to make it up (although that may be hard with chem)
i wouldnt recommend having your mom talk to the teacher cause if you already asked for the point, your mom isnt likely to fare any better. (and, teachers do not like parent complaints at all)

You know what this reminds me of? Bowling for Soup's song "Almost".

You just got to make the best of the situation and learn from it later on. It sucks. But they'll be plenty, plenty more opportunities in your life. Learn your lesson now, and make sure you don't fall just short of more important things in the future, whether it is in school or life.

Wow. Do not even think about asking your mom to contact your teacher. That's almost as pathetic as the guy in my class who actually went down on both knees to beg my teacher to raise his grades from a 94 to a 95 (and he was NOT doing it in a joking sort of way too.)

umm we're not harsh, we're realistic. if she had a C because she missed a quiz or a class or something and had a 0, then making it up would make sense. But the OP has nothing to make up, you don't get to redo grades that you got fair and square.

I got a C in chem. I'm still alive. Live and move on.

Don't have your mom contact your teacher, if anyone does it should be you.

That sucks, but in my school, even having an 84.4 (we're on the 7-point scale) won't earn you a B unless the teacher's feeling gracious. And you're one point away, not a tenth of a point. It does suck, and I don't want you to be hurt by some of the other harsher comments because it is incredibly frustrating, but you still earned that lower grade.

Having parents call in is a bit juvenile and only re-enforces her decision that you didn't earn your grade. You have taken the alternative route already: asking for a change. That opportunity wasn't granted. I'm guessing grades are in officially already, but whether or not that's the case, you've earned your C(+), so take a deep breath, scream into a pillow :), and move on.

What is the moral of this lesson? Just work one point harder next year.

Beg harder. I'd hate to get a C.

^ I would cry.

Remember - it's not "just one point" you'd need. You'd need 21 points (or more, depending on your scoring system..)
